‘Bridgerton’ star has cheeky response to being told she’s so ‘brave’ for getting naked on screen

When Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan was called “very brave” for baring her body in the hit series, she had the perfect, cheeky response.

“You know, I think it is hard,” she said at a fan event in Dublin that was captured on social media, “because I think women with my body type — women with perfect breasts — we don’t get to see ourselves on screen enough.” Coughlan added that she’s a “very proud as a member of the perfect breasts community. I hope you enjoy seeing them!”

This wasn’t the first time that Coughlan has had to shut down talk about her body.

In January 2022, she told Elle U.K. that “being famous is like being a dog on the Tube,” with people staring at you, saying things to you, and even touching you without asking.

“I went to the pub with my friend a while back and it was like being an animal at the zoo,” Coughlan told the magazine. “People just watching and looking. And I remember one time I was taking my Invisalign out, and this person was staring me right in the eyes, which was quite weird. But, honestly, most people are so, so lovely.”

She’s also explained that she hopes to anger trolls who have criticized her appearance by being “very naked on camera” in upcoming episodes, which debut Thursday, June 13, on Netflix.

“I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,” Coughlan told the U.K’s The Stylist. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest ‘f— you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering.”

Coughlan also wanted a self-portrait.

“I felt beautiful in the moment,” she said, “and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f—ing hot I looked!'”
