Grant Kenamond gets ready for the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic Walk.

WHEELING – Last week, Grant Kenamond walked the aisle as a graduating U.S. Presidential Scholar from Wheeling Park High School.

On Saturday, he participated in the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic Walk during the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine.

“I like walking in my free time,” Kenamond said. “I walked the race last year, I’m just trying to beat my time.”

He added he walks to stay in shape, but he acknowledged walking also helps him mentally when he takes on hours of studying.

“I would definitely say so,” he said. “Walking allows me to focus on other things. I just put on a podcast and walk.”

In addition to being named both a U.S. Presidential Scholar and a National Merit Scholar this year, Kenamond served as captain of the West Virginia State Math Team and placed first in the West Virginia State Math Field Day competition.

He was a member of the tennis team at WPHS, and played violin and piano as a member of the WPHS orchestra.

Kenamond plans to attend Purdue University this fall and major in chemical engineering.
