Starting Pitcher Streamer Rankings Fantasy Baseball: 5/25 & 5/26 | Pitcher List

Here are today and tomorrow’s daily SP Streamer rankings for fantasy baseball.

Every day of the 2024 baseball season, I’ll be looking at today and tomorrow’s slate of scheduled starting pitchers and ranking their matchups for your fantasy baseball streams.

There’s a lot that goes into this and you can hang out with me on Playback.tv/pitcherlist to talk about the specific ranks as I make them every weekday morning from 10am – 12pm ET. If you have questions about these ranks, please ask during the morning Playback AMA. Those are my office hours as I generally don’t answer comments on the site.

There are four tiers to these rankings with 12-teamers in mind:

Auto-Start – Just do it. Don’t overthink this, start the man. This includes “if I have them rostered, I’m starting them” pitchers.

Probably Start – I’m likely starting these arms, though I recognize there is more risk than we’d like there to be. Either it’s a tough matchup for a good-not-elite pitcher or a weak lineup for a volatile arm. These pitchers have a 50% or greater chance of performing well in my view and I’m starting them in the majority of situations.

Questionable Start – Think of this tier as “I don’t want to start these pitchers in a vacuum, but you could do worse.” Streamers found in this tier are not pitchers I’m targeting and are only if you are in dire need of one. To play it safe with streaming, just start the Probably Start streamers.

Do Not Start – The reward is not worth the risk. Don’t do it. Seriously, these pitchers have a very slim chance of success or sometimes none at all.

Obviously, there will be circumstances where pitchers should move between teams for your situation specifically and these new tiers should act as a little more help than the straight table from last year.

Please keep in mind that streaming is far from a perfect play. In fact, if they work out over half the time, I’d consider it a success. These matchup rankings & streamer picks are going to be wildly different than the actual results throughout the year, so please, have sympathy before the scathing comments and tweets. I’m only trying to help!

Make sure to read the notes if you’re wondering why I’m favoring certain pitchers over others – I won’t get to everyone and hopefully I answer what questions you will have.

There is a second table for tomorrow’s starting pitcher matchups as well, helping everyone get a jump on their nightly pickups. Please note that these matchups are subject to change, though, and there will be times when I have the incorrect pitcher going. I thank you for your future understanding.

Finally, there are my streaming picks of the day, and please keep in mind that I am forced to pick a streamer every day. Those highlighted in Green are that day’s streaming pick in the second tier and I’d roll with them everywhere. Those in Yellow are in the third tier and should be okay if you’re searching for something on a given day, but I don’t recommend streaming unless you’re in need. Finally, those are Red are those I really don’t want to start (they are labeled as “Do Not Start”, after all) but have no other choice. Don’t stream these guys until you are truly desperate. A streaming pick is defined as “rostered in 20% or fewer leagues according to Fantasy Pros. This really emphasizes the point that I’d be happy if over 50% of these worked. I could do the whole sub 30/40% rostered, but there’s no fun in that. You can use the rankings to realize who those picks would be instead.

(Opener) – Outlines that a pitcher is being opened for that day & the pitcher listed will follow the opener.

As I do my rankings, I thought it would be helpful to showcase a table of how we’re ranking offenses (in alphabetical order by tier):

Nick’s Loose Team Offense Rankings (Updated 5/20)

I’m sure it’ll change through the year + there are differences to be made about teams vs. LHP or RHP, but it works as a general table that y’all should keep in mind.

Alright, let’s get to it.

This year, with our new daily fantasy baseball projections powered by PLV, I’ll be competing against PL Bot to pick the best streaming option each day.

The streaming record is determined by “Was this a productive game for 12-teamers if I started them?” Roughly a PQS with a Win and a strikeout per inning with a sub 1.20 WHIP, with a minimum of 5 IP. Close calls are decided by Playback chat.

Nick’s 2024 Streamer Record: 34-24

Today’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Auto Starts

Aaron Nola @ COL – Aces gonna ace, even in Coors.

Logan Gilbert @ WSN – Aces gonna ace after not having his best stuff as of late.

Nick Pivetta vs. MIL – Pivetta is back in his groove following his IL stint.

Dylan Cease vs. NYY – Cease has been a Cherry Bomb over the years and it’s a hot Yankee offense. It’s been a great season thus far, though, and we’re hoping the Padres’ influence has made his valleys far smaller.

José Berríos @ DET – He’s the Great Undulator, but it’s the Tigers.

Reynaldo López @ PIT – ReyLó has been sturdy and gets a great matchup.

Walker Buehler @ CIN – Buehler was far better in his last outing and you’re rolling him out there with confidence, even in Cin City.

Probably Starts

Tanner Bibee @ LAA – I don’t like his heater and his secondaries are infrequently spotted. That said, it’s the Angels and his Cherry Bomb tendencies could be minimized.

Jordan Hicks @ NYM – Just throw strikes and you’ve got this.

Jordan Montgomery vs. MIA – It’s the Marlins. Montgomery isn’t flashy, but this should be fine.

Marcus Stroman @ SDP – Stroman found his secondaries last time out and has hopefully put his rough stretch behind him.

Brady Singer @ TBR – Singer is back to his sinker/slider ways of old that make for more volatility than ideal, but this is the Rays. You’re going for it.

Dean Kremer @ CHW – Kremer stumbled last time out and now gets the gift of the CrySox.

Jameson Taillon @ STL – He’s a Toby with a great matchup.

José Soriano vs. CLE – As long as Soriano has his curve and sinker, he should be able to produce across 5+ frames.

Spencer Arrighetti @ OAK – I like the Pasta Pirate’s four-seamer and his array of secondaries should keep his head above water long enough to secure a Win.

Questionable Starts

Hunter Greene vs. LAD – It’s a high risk/reward outing for Greene, who earning 17 four-seamer whiffs against the Dodgers in their last matchup.

Luis Severino vs. SFG – I wish I had more faith in Severino’s arsenal to push him into the second tier. The ceiling doesn’t seem high enough.

Reese Olson vs. TOR – I’d have him high in the second tier, but I’m worried Olson is still feeling the effects of the comebacker he endured earlier in the week.

Michael Lorenzen @ MIN –You need a PQS? You may find it here.

Aaron Civale vs. KCR – Civale is going through one of the roughest patches of his career. Here’s to the man turning over a new leaf in this game.

Mitch Keller vs. ATL – He’s a Cherry Bomb who is generally opponent agnostic. If he has his command, it’ll work regardless of the mighty Atlanta bats.

Do Not Starts

JP Sears vs. HOU – Sure, there are moments where Sears is locked in with his heaters and sweepers, but this is far too risky.

Erick Fedde vs. BAL – Maybe it works, though it’s not in Waltimore. Not enough juice for the squeeze.

Colin Rea @ BOS – He’s a Werewolf so who knows, maybe it’s a full moon.

Trevor Williams vs. SEA – #NeverTrevor.

Chris Paddack vs. TEX – Paddack’s stuff doesn’t demand success against the Rangers.

UPDATE: Miles Mikolas vs. CHC – The best quality of Mikolas is his long leash, which makes him a desperate QS play.

Sixto Sánchez @ ARI – He’s not the man of old.

Dakota Hudson vs. PHI – COL story, bro.

UPDATE: Albert Suárez @ CHW – It looks decent on paper, but Suárez pitched in relief on Wednesday and I wouldn’t expect him to go long enough to be proper SP value.

Matthew Liberatore vs. CHC – He’s not expected to go deep enough into this game, let alone produce in that time.

Tomorrow’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Auto Starts

Chris Sale @ PIT – Aces gonna ace.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto @ CIN – Aces gonna ace.

Kyle Bradish @ CHW – One start from the AGA label, make it count.

Logan Webb @ NYM – Changeup returned last time with 16/21 sweeper strikes.

Yusei Kikuchi @ DET – He’s been too dang good. Slider fell off with changeup stepping up last time. Hope the slider returns.

Ranger Suárez @ COL – This is where we are with Suárez, even in Coors.

Sonny Gray vs. CHC – Gray should be trusted to perform regularly

Pablo López vs. TEX – He’s struggled with his changeups and sweeper, but the ceiling is still very much present. Feels more like a weird rough patch than a “he’s cooked” scenario.

Bryan Woo @ WSN – After taking down the Yankees, the Nationals should be an easy call.

Tanner Houck vs. MIL – The Brewers have certainly surprised with their offense, but so has Houck’s consistency.

Ronel Blanco @ OAK – He’s returning from his suspension and I’m not sure what to make of it. I don’t expect a quality dip and it’s the Athletics.

Probably Starts

Brandon Pfaadt vs. MIA – It’s the Marlins.

Clarke Schmidt @ SDP – Schmidt is feeling his cutter and that’s a lovely thing,

Javier Assad @ STL – He stumbled last time out against Atlanta, but we’re giving him one extra outing to sort things out in this Vargas Rule + it was Atlanta, after all.

Taj Bradley vs. KCR – I’m worried he’s still a Cherry Bomb but we’re riding with this.

Garrett Crochet vs. BAL – I’d have him higher, but I’m worried about Baltimore’s strength against LHP.

Ben Lively @ LAA – He’s locating his fastballs upstairs effectively and gets the Angels.

Michael Wacha @ TBR – The changeup is still legit and his command is getting better than earlier in the season.

Questionable Starts

Sean Manaea vs. SFG – He’s a Toby and I’m on the edge deciding if he’s worth the start against the Giants. I think so…?

Nathan Eovaldi @ MIN – If Eovaldi does start this, it seems like a proper Still ILL.

Joe Musgrove vs. NYY – The Yankees are so dang hot right now.

Cal Quantrill vs. PHI – His splitter has been incredible and the run he’s on is absolutely bonkers.

Ryan Weathers @ ARI – He’s gone a few starts now of success, maybe it sticks against Arizona?

Casey Mize vs. TOR – Mize is enduring a rough patch and the downward trend could stick around for another start.

Robert Gasser @ BOS – He just went six frames without a walk or a strikeout. What is this world.

Reid Detmers vs. CLE – His command has been rough and I’m awfully hesitant leaning into this.

Do Not Starts

Patrick Corbin vs. SEA – At least he has a long leash?

Martín Pérez vs. ATL – Absolutely not.

Aaron Brooks vs. HOU – Brooks was pummeled by Houston before and likely will be again.

Brent Suter vs. LAD – Does he even go more than two innings? Three?
