Travel expected to be busiest in 20 years for Memorial Day weekend

(New York, NY)  —  Expect roads to be very busy this Memorial Day weekend.

AAA expects new record highs for the number of people traveling on the roads with more than 38 million Americans going 50 miles or more from home by vehicle.  An additional 3.51 million will be traveling by air and another 1.9 million will be traveling through another means.

“We haven’t seen Memorial Day weekend travel numbers like these in almost 20 years,” said Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel. “We’re projecting an additional one million travelers this holiday weekend compared to 2019, which not only means we’re exceeding pre-pandemic levels but also signals a very busy summer travel season ahead.”
